The Constitutional Court of Austria, the highest court of the country, ordered on Tuesday the authorization of marriage to homosexual couples no later than 2019, in the name of the prohibition of discrimination based on sexual orientation.

The prohibition of marriage between persons of the same sex “violates the principle of equality and non-discrimination of persons based on personal qualities such as sexual orientation,” writes the Court in its decision, issued as a result of an appeal lodged by a couple of women.
